Whiten Your Grout With These Simple Tips

Posted on January 12, 2023

If your South Central home’s grout is starting to get blackened and gross, you might be worried that you’ll never see that sparkly white grout again. Never fear because several solutions can clean your tile and whiten your grout. Not every solution works with every type of tile or grout, so be careful, and do some spot-testing before trying out any new cleaning product.

Warm Water

First, wash the tile with warm water and scrub the grime out. If you have particularly delicate tiles, this is the most gentle solution. Although, keep in mind that some tiles can’t handle water very well, and others need to be scrubbed very carefully. Make sure the brush or sponge you use isn’t too abrasive.

Lemon Juice

You can use lemon juice to clear your grout of grime. Its acidity makes it antibacterial and great at cleaning up messes.

All you need to do is pour a lemon juice-based cleaner over your grout and let it sit for ten to fifteen minutes. After it’s had some time to soak, scrub away the grime and rinse what’s left.

Vinegar

Vinegar solutions are excellent for cleaning. Vinegar can be a little strong, so be careful on any surface you use it on, and always dilute it in water.

Mix equal parts of vinegar and warm water and let it soak on your tile grout for a few minutes. After that, rinse and scrub the remaining vinegar. If the smell remains, pour baking soda on your tile to soak up those odors.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda

One way to get your grout white is by mixing hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to form a paste. Smear this paste along your grout and give it time to react with the grime. After that, you can use water to dissolve the paste and make it easier to scrub or soak up with a sponge.

Bleach

Bleach can be a dangerous chemical, so always exercise caution and dilute bleach in water. If there’s any ammonia on your tiles, do not use bleach.

Mix ¾ of a cup of bleach with a gallon of water and give it plenty of time to sit on the tile grout. Bleach will not only eliminate grime but also help with discoloration. Make sure it won’t also discolor your tiles – that’ll be much harder to clean up.

Commercial Grout Cleaner

You can always buy a commercial grout cleaner to help make your grout white. These are designed for this exact purpose, so it’s a good idea to try them. Keep in mind that not all of them work on all grout, and it’s not an immediate or obvious solution.

Professional Steam Cleaning in South Central

Finally, you can clean your grout by hiring a professional South Central steam cleaner. Steam cleaning helps remove grime from most surfaces. You may think it’s only for carpet or upholstery cleaning, but the truth is steam cleaning can help out your South Central home’s tile too.
